Are self-employed workers and workers in the gig economy eligible for unemployment compensation?

Through December 31, 2020, yes. The federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act changed current law and allowed self-employed and gig economy workers to receive Unemployment Compensation once the State of Oregon makes an agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor. The benefit value is calculated based on the State of Oregon’s benefit formulas that use recent information about your wages. Workers can also receive an additional $600 a week, as provided by Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation, through July 31, 2020.
